# Signing a document

The emSigner mobile app allows users to review and sign documents securely from anywhere. The signing experience is optimized for quick actions, clear visibility of pending tasks, and guided completion of required fields.

#### Overview

When a document requires your signature, it appears prominently in the app so you can take action without navigating through multiple screens. The app guides you step by step—from identifying pending documents to applying a legally valid signature and completing the signing flow.

### Step 1: Identify Documents Requiring Your Signature

Upon logging in, the **Home** screen highlights documents that need your attention.

* The **“Need your signature”** section displays the most recent document awaiting your action.
* Each card shows:
  * Document name
  * Initiator
  * Date and time of initiation
* If multiple documents are pending, select **See All** to view the complete list of documents awaiting your signature.

This ensures that the most urgent or recent signing requests are always visible first.

### Step 2: Open the Document for Signing

Tap on a document from the **Need your signature** list to open it.

* The document opens in a secure viewer.
* Signature and other required fields are clearly highlighted.
* Navigation controls allow you to:
  * Move between pages
  * Jump directly to required fields
  * Zoom in or out for better readability

### Step 3: Review the Document

Before signing, you can thoroughly review the document content.

* Scroll through all pages
* Use page navigation buttons for multi-page documents
* Ensure all prefilled data is accurate

### Step 4: Apply Your Signature

Tap on the highlighted **signature placeholder** to begin signing.

#### Choose Signature Type

Depending on your region and account configuration, multiple signing methods may be available, such as:

* Electronic signature
* Certificate-based or digital signature
* Region-specific compliant signing methods

This ensures that documents can be signed in accordance with local legal and regulatory requirements.

#### Configure Signature Style

After selecting the signature type, you can customize how your signature appears:

* Choose from **sample signature styles**
* Draw your signature directly on the screen
* Upload a signature image

A live preview shows how the signature will appear on the document before final application.

### Step 5: Preview and Confirm

Once the signature is applied:

* Review the document preview to ensure the signature is correctly placed
* Verify that all mandatory fields are completed

### Step 6: Additional Actions

From the **More options** menu, you may be able to perform actions such as:

* Decline the document (with a reason, if required)
* Delegate signing to another user
* Download or share the document
* View signing order
* Add or view comments
* View or add attachments
* Access document logs for audit details

The availability of these options depends on the workflow configuration and your role in the document.

### Step 7: Complete Signing

Tap **Finish** to complete your signing action.

* The document status updates automatically
* If you are part of a signing sequence, the document is routed to the next participant
* A confirmation screen indicates successful signing

You are then returned to the Home screen or envelope list.

### Post-Signing Behavior

* Signed documents move to the appropriate status (for example, *Completed* or *Waiting for others*). The signing journey can be viewed in the signing order diagram.
* Audit trails and logs are updated automatically
* All signing actions remain legally valid, traceable, and tamper-evident
