# FAQ's

### How do I know if a document requires my signature?

When your signature is required, emSigner notifies you primarily through an **email notification** sent to the email address specified by the initiator. The email contains details such as the document name and a secure signing link.

> **Note:** SMS or WhatsApp notifications may also be sent if these channels are enabled and configured for the workflow.

### How am I authenticated when I access the signing link?

As an external user, you do not need emSigner login credentials.

When you click the signing link from the email, authentication depends on how the workflow was configured by the initiator:

* If **additional verification** is enabled, you may be required to complete one or more of the following:
  * One-Time Password (OTP) verification
  * Liveness check
  * Identity-based verification (for example, ID or demographic verification)
* If no additional verification is configured, you are taken **directly to the document preview screen**.

Once the required verification (if any) is completed, you can access the document and proceed with signing.

### What happens when I open a document for signing?

When you open the document, you are first shown a **full preview** of the document.

From the document viewer, you can:

* Read the document page by page
* View attachments (if provided)
* View the signing order
* Add comments (if enabled)
* Download the document (if permitted)

Once you are ready to act, you can use the **Next** option to navigate directly to the required signature, initials, or input fields.

### What signing methods are available to me as an external user?

The signing methods available to you depend on how the document and workflow are configured by the initiator.

***

### Are all signing options always available?

No. Only the signing methods enabled for the specific document and permitted for external users are shown during signing.

***

### Do signing options depend on region, account configuration, or document settings?

Yes. Available signing methods may vary based on:

* Regional and regulatory requirements
* Account-level configuration
* Document or envelope-level settings defined by the initiator

These controls ensure compliance with applicable legal and organizational requirements.

***

### Can the signing method be changed once selected?

Yes. If multiple signing methods are available for the document, you can switch between the available options **before completing the signing process**.

> **Note:** Only methods enabled for the envelope and permitted for external signers can be selected.

### Once I sign, what happens next?

After you complete your signing action:

* Your signature is applied to the document
* The document automatically moves to the **next participant** in the signing order, if any
* The signing order diagram is updated to reflect your completed action

***

### Will I receive confirmation after signing?

Yes. Once **all participants** in the workflow have completed their actions, the final signed document along with the audit trail is shared with the relevant participants via email.
