# Configuring a recipient as a Reviewer

In emSigner, a recipient is automatically treated as a **reviewer** when no signature or initial placeholder is assigned to them in the document. Reviewers are invited to view and review the document but are not required to sign.

While reviewers do not affix a signature, all their actions—such as document access, review time, and completion—are fully tracked and recorded in the audit trail for transparency and traceability.
